Being an BD special OVA of said series, the art and animation is poor even for this series' stander. And it's rushed as hell, lots of monologue from the source material of episode 1 was cut out. Episode 2 was not as noticeable but they still cut out more than a little stuff, which hurts the atmosphere of the story, since those parts really helped building up mood in the manga. Flashbacks detail the gruesome incident. The anime's main issue lies in pacing. Adapting twenty manga chapters into twenty minutes necessitates cuts, hindering the horror's buildup. Despite this, the premise remains strong, and while not overly frightening, it's unsettling. Characterization suffers in the anime. Limited time leaves characters underdeveloped and generic, lacking likability. Artwork is commendable, with subdued yet impactful body horror. The deliberate framing maximizes disturbing scenes. Apr 12, 2021 Saaayuriii Not Recommended I really don't know what really happend because they have switched everytime and I could not understand whats happening right now. First they showed us the class and then in the other episode there were just a girl and a boy. I also hated the reasons why they killed her, but it made the anime scarier. I wish she would take revenge from the class, but they did not show them. This time around we're delving into the Itou Junji collection from Studio Deen. Specifically, the Tomie special adapting one of Itou's best known titles. Story: We open with Tomie's funeral. Jul 21, 2023 huntingsounds Mixed Feelings If you are already a fan of Junji Itou's work, you might notice how accurate these two episodes are to chapter 1 of the book Tomie #1. Most of the points I'm giving on the rating are because of this. If you are unfamiliar with Junji Ito's other work or have never read anything by him, I think there is a chance you might enjoy this anime. However, it might not be very clear to some viewers without more context. I think it's rare to find someone unfamiliar with Tomie, mainly because of the 1998 movie.
