Fried eggs are a staple of the classic full Scottish breakfast and while they might not win any healthy food awards, they are undeniably a protein-rich and satisfying start to the day. Whether nestled away in a sandwich, perched upon toast, or part of a hearty fry-up, eggs are a beloved morning treat with so many ways to enjoy them.
Achieving the perfect fried egg can be quite tricky but it does not always require a frying pan and the inevitable oily splatter. As it turns out, you can actually whip up a fried egg in your microwave in under 60 seconds. This convenient method is not only lower in calories due to reduced oil use, but it also spares you from smoky kitchens and those pesky burnt edges, making it a cleaner, faster, healthier, and equally delicious alternative to the traditional pan-frying technique.
This simple microwave approach to cooking fried eggs is not a well kept secret, however, as it's actually recommended by many culinary experts, the Express reports.

As the One Sweet Appetite food blog puts it: "Let me begin by saying, these Microwave Fried Eggs will truly change your life. You think I'm kidding, but I'm not!

"With just a one-minute cook time, they've become my son's go-to breakfast he can make in the blink of an eye, no joke."
The blog continues: "At our house, we've been cooking eggs in the microwave for years. It's actually one of our favourite methods. It's pretty much hassle-free, totally fool proof and yields consistent results every time. On top of that, there's little to no mess."

So here's a step by step guide on how you go about making your fried eggs without a frying pan - why not try it out for yourself?
To whip up fried eggs in the microwave, start by lightly oiling a dish or deep plate. Next, you want to break an egg into the dish.
With a knife, gently pierce the yolk but make sure not to entirely break it as this step is to prevent it from bursting later.
After you have done this, then place it in the microwave on high for 30 seconds.
Allow it to rest for one minute, then inspect your egg to see if it is the way you like it. If you prefer your eggs more cooked, you can add additional 10-second intervals to cook it further.
Then simply serve it on toast, bread or any other food of your choice and voila - it's as simple as that!
Poaching your eggs can also be done in the microwave following a very similar technique which requires a microwave-safe cup, some water, a toothpick or sharp knife, and a microwave-safe plate.
Simply fill a quarter of the cup with water before cracking the egg into it. You want to ensure that there's enough water to cover the top of the egg.

Next pierce the yolk for the same reason as you would for the fried egg and make sure to cover the cup with a microwave-safe plate.
Pop it into the microwave for just under a minute or until you have it cooked the way you want it, ready to add to your toast or your breakfast plate.
